Multi-media licences
Are you looking for ways to reach out to your local community?

You may have received a letter or email from CCLI with some ideas on how copyright licences can be used to help reach out to your local community. We would like to remind you of some of these in order to make the most of the resources your church already owns.

Using Films
How about showing some films in your church that represent the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross? This message is quite clear in the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and can easily be explained to your children and young people.

Don’t forget that if your church holds a Church Video Licence (CVL) you have the freedom to show as many films as you would like. You can also use film scenes in your sermons to deliver multi-media presentations to your congregation.

Please do remember that if you are showing films in church activities you may also need a Performing Right Society (PRS) Church Licence. This is because music is usually included in films and you are showing them in a public place with the exception of acts of worship, for which no licence is currently required.

Playing Music
By holding a PRS Church Licence to you also have the option to use music in a variety of different ways. The majority of churches that hold a PRS obtained it to play background music for coffee mornings, but many churches are now discovering that they can use this licence to reach out to their local community.

Photocopying
Would you like to be able to photocopy from drama scripts and other non-music publications? The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Church Licence is a very useful resource for research when preparing sermons, Alpha courses or church newsletters.

Other Activities
And don’t forget that CCLI can provide you with licences to cover your church for a variety of other activities, such as:
- Producing CDs or cassettes of your worship band for sale to your local community.
- Photocopying from authorised music books – great for teaching new songs to your worship band.
- Reproducing hymns and worship song words for creating your own service sheets.
- Storing hymns and worship song words on a computer for use with song projection software.
